The only extras are the trailers, but both "Beach Party" and "Bikini Beach" (which was actually the 2nd sequel to "Beach Party", following "Muscle Beach Party") are terrific fun, with decent surfing footage and lots of singing and dancing (Candy Johnson should have a license in frenetic dancing, she looks like a cyclone in fringe!). "Beach Party" has professor Bob Cummings studying the mating habits of beach teens, and inadvertently wooing Annette Funicello away from Frankie Avalon! It's a surprisingly non-slapstick comedy with beatnik overtones; the pie-fight finale is really the silliest it gets. Annette, her hair a sexy shade of cinnamon, is a natural for films like these: just a notch naughtier than her "Merlin Jones" comedies for Disney, she's forever G-rated, but it's nice to see her surrounded by surfin' kids and having a good time (her repartee with Frankie, John Ashley and all the girls is completely believable--and the director is smart to cut back to her as often as possible). "Bikini Beach" gives Avalon a dual role--and he seems to be having a ball playing Frankie and scenery-chewing British singer The Potato Bug (I could've done without his annoying maniacal laugh and broad accent). Both films look great on letterboxed DVD. Thanks MGM for a doubling the fun for the price of one.

South of St Louis Review

South of St Louis
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Joel McCrea, Zachary Scott, and Douglas Kennedy star as friends and partners whose ranch is destroyed as the Civil War rages on. Needing money to restart, they end up running guns for the Confederate Army, leaving McCrea's girlfriend Dorothy Malone behind and tangling with saloon singer/businesswoman Alexis Smith. However, each man wants something different, putting the former friends at odds with each other. South Of St. Louis is a passable film, neither exciting enough to be memorable, nor dull enough to be given a bad rating. The actors are competent in poorly drawn characters, the script average, the direction acceptable. Alexis Smith's saloon singer appears to have some spark to her in the beginning, but she quickly fades. The film needs some spark to get it going and to make the audience care. It's an average movie, nothing more, nothing less.

Ink (2009) Review

Ink (2009)
Average Reviews:

I bought Ink on one single recommendation from a stranger on a forum here on Amazon. I've never been so pleasantly surprised by a blind movie purchase in my life!
Ink is an independent film, not with an enormous budget, but it doesn't stop it from being an incredible film with gorgeous visuals. You can see how much work went into every single second of this film. This movie stands out among everything else I've seen in a long time. Absolutely unique. The acting was fantastic, especially the acting from the young girl Quinn Hunchar, playing the character Emma. The ideas were original, the characters interesting, and the plot was engaging. And the ending... prepare for one hell of an ending. And some of you will need to keep some tissues close... A description on the back of the package compares the movie to Brazil, Donnie Darko, The Matrix, Dark City, and Pan's Labyrinth. I would definitely group it in with those films, although it is not a ripoff of any of those films at all.
Quick synopsis: there is another world, a dream world where two sides are fighting to control our dreams. Some our bringing us pleasant dreams, and others, the incubi, are bringing us nightmares. A battle ensues over the soul of a little girl named Emma, trapped in their world while in a coma... and the deciding factor falls on two men: John in the waking world, Emma's father, and Ink, a rogue warrior in the dream world, fighting to rid himself of his scars and shame.
This movie is absolutely incredible, please do yourself a favor and check it out.

Bulletproof Heart (aka Killer) (1995) Review

Bulletproof Heart (aka Killer) (1995)

This haunting film noir melodrama from Canada should be called, simply,"Irony". When you go back over it afterwards, you'll see all the many little twists and tugs. It requires at least one or two more goings over to fully appreciate the poetic justices and injustices visited upon the anti-hero and his fellow night dwellers. Anthony Lapaglia is, as usual, outstanding, only in a far more restrained vain. His New York/New Jersey hit-man has "lost" his "way", as his aging veteran boss, played by the flawless Peter Boyle, guesses. Young, good-looking, wealthy, unattached-Mick would seem to have the world by the tail, if only it weren't for the fact that he kills people for a living and as of late is having trouble finding meaning in life. He is gotten to the point, in fact, where he toys with killing for no reason-a dangerous line for him to cross, as pointed out by George. Experiencing this torment of the soul after his last hit- a "fiasco", where he had to make a second, successful attempt on the mark-George nonethless begs him to do a hit that same night on a woman for whom George has come to feel extreme affection. (You'll find out why.) Mick reluctantly agrees, bringing along his loose cannon of a best friend, played with whiny innocence by that adorable goof, Matt Craven. Now for the first big twist: the edgy woman, played with uniquely approachable, very real glamour by Mimi Rogers, knows its coming, and has resigned herself to it. In fact, as we find out, she wants to die. You'll have to see it to find out why. When you realize what is going on, your heart will go thump. This goes from quirky film noir to Shakespeare in one deft moment during a most unusual picnic. The story and cast take this film to a conclusion that is sure to shock you, but shouldn't really surprise you. You'll see the nifty clues director Mark Malone has scattered throughout the flick upon later viewings. As warned by others, take the video all the way through past the final credits to the epilogue. The lesson will hit you full in the face, and probably disturb your sleep that night.

After watching the trailer at [...], I must purchase this film. It looks like an intelligent horror film with a bit of social commentary. Some of the shots/effects look incredible. I'll be keeping an eye out for the director, Sean Cain.

Where do I start! Lewis substituting for Carmen Miranda, or the scene where he's talking to himself saying "You can get a blackjack" or where Lewis winds up playing a "dummy". I could go on and on! Our dog is named after Lewis' character Myron. Lewis is our 4 year old's favorite actor.

Fast and the Furious DVDTee (Large) (1954) Review

The Fast and the Furious, 1954 film
The movie begins with a speeding truck that misses a turn and rolls over in a crash. Next we see sports cars racing along a country road. One car pulls into a café for a meal. The waitress complains about taxes. One customer pays and is questioned about a ride. There is action, and this driver falls to the floor. This stranger acts to drive the woman's sport car south. "Going someplace?" "He don't seem like the Jaguar type." The Nash police car arrives at that café, they get eyewitness identification. Frank Webster talks to his passenger. Frank will drive over the mountains to avoid the police. Frank knows how to start a car. Connie wants to be let alone. The car coasts down the hill. They pass the inspection on the road and proceed to the racing grounds.
Their car qualifies. The police are still searching for an unknown man. Can they find a house to hide in? Frank explains his past, and frame-up in that truck accident. They talk to the caretaker and leave. Some old cars race around the track. There is a Concours d'Elegance first. "You don't look like a sports car man." They go for a walk in the dark. "Exercise is good for your figure." Can Connie escape from that shed? [Burning down a locked shed is not a good escape method!] The race begins. Connie borrows another car. There is action from the car race. Frank stops to help Favor. He has made a new decision. [Or was it the Production Code?]
This is a low-budget production but not a bad story. It tells about the new motor sport of sports car racing in southern California. This is different from the other hot-rod movies of that era.
