(More customer reviews)I got this for loading kayak on the full sized SUV. The Saddle has to be ordered separately in order to attach the loader to the car rack. However instead of using the saddle to attach the loader I bought a small thick metal plate from Home depot which had pre-drilled holes. I had to cut the plate with the sabre saw (metal cutting blade) and it worked perfect to attach the loader to the car rack. Instead of saddles I use the foam blocks on both ends which are much cheaper. So I use the loader to load the kayak and then move it to the foam blocks and tie it. It is fairly easy for one person to load and unload the kayak with this loader.

Malone MicroSport 2-Boat SeaWing Kayak Trailer Package Review

(More customer reviews)This trailer came in six (6) boxes on delivery day! It takes many hours to assemble (approximately 5 1/2 hrs.), but is well worth the time. So easy to load & unload the kayaks! We even plan to store our kayaks upside down on the trailer during off seasons. As we began assembling, we noticed a problem with one tire, we were sent a tire that had only 4 hub holes rather than five. After going onto Amazon and getting nowhere, I contacted Malone (located in Maine) directly and couldn't have asked for better service. They immediately sent out the correct tire & a return shipping label so the four hub tire could be easily returned. Definitely would call Malone directly in the future for anything.

Malone SeaWing Saddle Style Universal Car Rack Kayak Carrier Review

(More customer reviews)I already owned two Thule "Hull-a-port-Pro" j-racks but thought that I would do better with this rack system in getting the kayaks up on my new Subaru Outback 2011. The You-Tube video looked so convincing that I went ahead and purchased one set just to see how it worked. I would sell the Thule ones if this was better. Well, first, the universal clamps aren't so universal. They fit... sorta. It did not grip the factory bar firmly all around and it actually compressed a rubber protector on the factory bar. This made me suspect right away, but I went ahead to see how it was to put the kayaks on. I had to put some protective padding pillow on the back of my car otherwise the kayak would certainly scratch it for sure. Then, both my wife and I (we are both seniors) attempted to lift and slide the kayak on to the racks. Wow, it was work., mainly because this is up high on the car so your leverage is poor to begin with, and secondly, because the rubber grips on the racks make it hard to slide. But, we did it. Now it was time to take them off. And this was even worse. Trying to grab and slide the 50 lb. kayak back off the rack and car without damaging the finish on the car took all the weightlifting we could muster. Once off, it was an instant no-brainer decision to send this product back for a refund. I'll stick to my Thule racks. At least we can get them on from the side without damaging the car. And they are so much easier to deal with. The morale here... things always look good in an advertisement video.

Malone Standard Foam Block Universal Car Top Kayak Carrier Kit Review

(More customer reviews)I'm frankly disappointed. We've had good days with this and really bad ones. We put the blocks over the factory bars atop our Outback. Position the kayak right side up, tie off the beast with the cinch strap through the back doors, and with the hook/rope to the trailer hitch in back and the only metal available in front, which is to the side of the car, either left or right. I've read every other review and followed each suggestion at least once.
It slips along the bars and the strap makes a deafening noise (even with the loose end inside and it's cinched so tight the kayak deflects a lot). We had to retie it about four times for the last 25 mile drive. Infuriating.
I'm going to try to make a central connection in front by tying off a short rope to both metal parts, so the kayak can tie in the middle, and I may have to resort to duct tape on the bars to keep the blocks from sliding.

The only problem I had with it was that you have to be careful about getting debris underneath the foam pads as it could easily scratch your paint. But, if you don't really care about that then this is the perfect solution. After using it a couple times I find it pretty quick for getting the kayak on and off the roof. One thing you have to watch is the straps - if the straps outside the car are straight, flat and tight they will vibrate quite loudly even at mediocre speeds. To prevent this, just add a single twist in the strap and you won't hear anything.

A simple modification was done with 2 1/2 inch foam attached to the existing resting area and it works fine. Have to use two tie downs placed at rear to keep from slipping. I cannot close it but this would have been a problem with any cart due to the design of the boat. Satisfied with the construction and price.

Malone Big Foot Pro Universal Car Rack Canoe Carrier with Bow and Stern Lines Review

(More customer reviews)We are going on a road trip from CO to Lake of the Ozarks in MO. I wanted a more secure way to haul the canoe 2k miles through Kansas winds. Received the brackets from Amazon yesterday and had them installed and canoe mounted in less than an hour. I have an Acura MDX with factory cross bars. I was worried about this fitting.
BEFORE I purchased the product, I put the canoe on top and measured the space available on either side of the canoe for the mounts to make sure it would work. The measurements were going to be tight, so I flipped a coin and bought the brackets. The description states that the mounts are 5" wide, but the clamp that bolts to the underside of the bracket is 1.5" wide and allows the bracket to hang over the Acura's crossbar mounts and inch or two. This saved my skin. There was very little wiggle room. BUT it works and it looks nice. The canoe is very secure. The straps that accompany the kit are of good quality.
I do not like a single line on the bow since it does not give good side-to-side control (even though the brackets provide fantastic side-to-side control--something I'll have to get used to), so I modified the ropes to attach triangle style to the inside of the hood.
This product--although probably overkill--gives me much more peace of mind hauling the canoe long distances with high winds.
